Special Notice of Recognition

We say a very sad farewell to to the lovely Carol Padday who is retiring after 19 years’ service here at Boutcher Primary School.  Her work over the years with many of the children on a one-to-one basis has been truly life changing for them, always ready with a kind word and a listening ear. The amazing costumes she has made by hand for the school productions are testament to her brilliant seamstress skills and attention to detail, literally a silk purse from a sow’s ear.  Thank you for everything Carol, we will all miss you greatly.

KS2 Homework
comments of the week

We had some great responses to our homework task!

Well done to Betty in Year 5 and Dylan in Year 6 for your winning responses.

Children under the age of 16 in Australia will be banned from using social media, after the Australian government passed a new law on Thursday. What do you think of the ban on under 16s using social media?

I think that it is okay because it will keep you safe from danger online. If a little kid goes on any social media platforms like TikTok, X, Facebook, Snapchat, Youtube or any other platforms they could do something that they don’t understand what it means and see something they are not allowed to see or get spam on their device. Also, another reason it would be better for the world is because not a lot of people go outdoors and just stay on their devices at home but the world is a beautiful place to explore. Some people say that if you don’t have a device then you can’t call your friends or family, but you can just use your parent’s phone or iPad.

Betty (Year 5)

In my view, the ban on under 16s using social media is unjust because we need social media to stay connected with our loved ones and friends; and be informed about each other’s lives which could help us in many ways to learn and be entertained. Watching Youtube can be educating and playing games can help to learn new skills. The article says that it will protect young from the "harms" of social media which partly makes sense but I believe if there was a control over negative and harmful content Britain would not have to follow Australia.

Dylan (Year 6)
