English

At Boutcher C.E. Primary School, we believe that reading is an important life skill and we strive for all children to enjoy and value it. We recognise that enjoyment in reading arises from deriving meaning from text. It is our aim to develop and create passionate readers for life.

We teach a systematic synthetic phonics program where we support the mission that every child should be supported to learn to read and love it. We are committed to engaging all children to develop a love and confidence of reading.

We consider the mastery of written language to be one of the most powerful gifts that we can provide to our children and believe that writing should be purposeful, rich and enjoyable for all.

We plan our reading and writing curriculum through a book-based approach and promote reading for pleasure. We also provide opportunities for children to participate in national events and competitions.
